One of the most fabulous things about having a website or online business is the freedom to work your own hours from anywhere in the world.

It’s not easy. There are no magic wands to make it happen overnight.

But with dedication, a vision for you, perseverance and planning, it’s truly possible.

You can create your own website or get started with an online business even with limited funds… as long as you have a computer or laptop and a good internet connection.

If you are like me, you could spend hours figuring out how to get staretd with your own website.

Which is where my Resources I Use to Build my Website and Online Business comes in.

Domain Names

Your domain name is the address where Internet users can access your website.

As you can see, mine is

There are a number of domain name providers. I use Namecheap.

Simply enter the domain name you would like to use and see if it is available.

There are lots of add-ons to choose from them, but simply get your domain name at this stage to get up and running.

You can always add more later.

A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the services and technology needed for the website or webpage to be viewed on the Internet.

Websites are hosted or stored, on special computers called servers.

I recommend Siteground.

Building Your Own Website

WordPress is simply fab.

To help you on your way, check out Getting Started with WordPress.

There is a difference between and It took me ages to get my head around this when I started.

In a nutshell, is like renting a house and there are limitations as to what you can do. They also run ads on their free versions.

I use which gives you full control over your website.

Website Design

Now that your hosting is set up and ready to go, how do you make your blog look unique and customised? (If you still don’t have hosting, click here) uses  “Themes” to help you easily customise the look and feel of your website.

They are pre-built site design layouts that you upload to your WordPress installation and can easily personalise to look just how you want them to.

There are a number of free WordPress themes you can start using straight away, and they look pretty good.

Optimise Your Website for Traffic

The Hoth

One of my go-to companies.

They provide Search Engine Optimisation, Link Building Services, Blogging Services and Video Content.

And, are a great resource for lots of free information.

On signing up for free, you are offered a one to one consultation to help you get your business in front of more people, whether you are a new business or an established business or online presence needing more viewers.



Transferwise is an online account that lets you send money, get paid, and spend money internationally.

With a TransferWise account, you can send money abroad, get paid in other currencies, and spend abroad on the TransferWise debit Mastercard


Payment solutions and e-commerce needs with Paypal’s merchant services, from accepting Paypal account payments and credit cards on a website to online invoicing.

Website Images

You are going to need quite a few images to make your website appealing.

Be careful not to just download any image and use it; unless you are sure it is royalty free.

I use mainly my own photographs but do have a few from other sources such as:

There is a paid version of Canva but the free version is excellent for when you are starting out blogging or building an e-commerce store.

Being Organised


Trello’s boards, lists, and cards enable you to priorotise and organise your projects in a fun and flexible way.

The free version is a great way to get started with time-management for your online business and more.

When you need to get things done and don’t have the time or expertise then outsourcing is the perfect solution.
