Resources I Use to Build My Website

Do you want to get started with your own website and/or online business?

It can be done!

One of the most fabulous things about having a website or online business is the freedom to work your own hours from anywhere in the world.

It’s not easy. There are no magic wands to make it happen overnight.

But with dedication, a vision for you, perseverance and planning, it’s truly possible.

You can create your own website or get started with an online business even with limited funds… as long as you have a computer or laptop and a good internet connection.

If you are like me, you could spend hours figuring out how to get staretd with your own website.

Which is where my Resources I Use to Build my Website and Online Business comes in.

I hope you find it helpful.

If there is something you need or want and not sure where to look, drop me aline. I’ll be happy to help.

Domain Names

Your domain name is the address where Internet users can access your website.

As you can see, mine is rosalinecallaghan.com.

There are a number of domain name providers. I use Namecheap.

Simply enter the domain name you would like to use and see if it is available.

There are lots of add-ons to choose from them, but simply get your domain name at this stage to get up and running.

You can always add more later.

Hosting

A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the services and technology needed for the website or webpage to be viewed on the Internet.

Websites are hosted or stored, on special computers called servers.

I recommend Siteground.

Building Your Own Website

WordPress is simply fab.

To help you on your way, check out Getting Started with WordPress.

There is a difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com. It took me ages to get my head around this when I started.

In a nutshell, wordpress.com is like renting a house and there are limitations as to what you can do. They also run ads on their free versions.

I use WordPress.org which gives you full control over your website.

Website Design

Now that your hosting is set up and ready to go, how do you make your blog look unique and customised? (If you still don’t have hosting, click here)

WordPress.org uses  “Themes” to help you easily customise the look and feel of your website.

They are pre-built site design layouts that you upload to your WordPress installation and can easily personalise to look just how you want them to.

There are a number of free WordPress themes you can start using straight away, and they look pretty good.
